Reflect on a recent discussion you’ve had in which you tried to persuade others to accept your point of view. What type or types of reasoning did you use? How well did your reasoning work?
There are several different times that I have tried to persuade others to accept my point of few on the subject, but I can not reflect on any one in particular. I guess there has been a time when I wanted my cousin to try something new- a new food- I think it was something that was new to me too and I liked it so I wanted her to try it too. I told her I just tried it and it tastes really good... I know what you like and this is something that you will like for sure. I reasoned with her by asking her, "how are you going to know if you like it or not if you don't just try it?" "You have to try new things, there's nothing to lose...." My reasoning worked for the most part, but if I not told her what it was in the first place, or told her it was something she was familar with, she would have tried it with out hesitation. I would have told her after she tried it and said it was good. I know, it's kind of cruel... but it would have worked and it was harmless!

Rocky,
I think that this is a really good example of persuasion.Your reasonginig seems to be fair and you provide a good enough argument to persuade her into trying something she isnt to completely familiar with. In any case, providing a good argument and having some one agree with it is key in making some one choose your side of thinking. You were successful in providing a coherent topic as to why she should taste food that is completely foreign to her. Its not easy doing that, or convincing someone for that matter. I think that providing a good enough argument is what ultimaltey makes people see your side more. Next time, I ll try to do the same, and maybe even tell a little white lie. Its hard when you really want someone to do something but they are very negligent. Its worth a shot in any case. Facts after all, are vital.

Hey. Your example really made me laugh. I can definitely relate to what you are saying. I can remember several times when I have done something similar to this during a discussion with my family members and friends as well. Whenever I am trying to persuade someone I often try to find ways to support my point. This makes it a lot easier to convince them. This is like what you did, by telling her "there's nothing to lose." Usually I am successful, like you were, but other times I can come across people too stubborn to change their minds. Then I just realize that you can’t always win over everyone! Good job!
Hey I totally agree with your way of persuasion. I so would have done the same thing to one of my friends or family member. It's just soo funny how you have to use it. You would think that when it comes to food, there shouldnt be any questions about it or normally everyone would just eat it because its foo, but I guess not. When it comes to persuasion you have to learn the ins and out of different strategies there is to use, once you get that part together you'll be all good.
